This is Chapter 5 of the novel, yet the writer has succesfully presented a clear picture of the complicated relationships of all the main and sub-characters in this story. This reflects the wonderful skill of the writer in drawing a crystal like picture for the readers to view a story which is very complicated in conents.
The male character has been betrayed by his good friend and his wife 6 years ago. He trust them and asks his good friend to take care of his wife while he he in overseas. But finally he discover there is an incest between his wife and his good friend whom he trusts.
One may argue that we should not blame too much the moral standard of his wife who has betrayed him while he has not been with her for a very long time. She is a human being, she is young and beautiful, she needs sex fulfilment at such age. Such impulse makes her betray her husband.
This point is really debatable. If every married woman has incest with the other men, what will happen to the world? It will be a world of animal like sex world, just like dogs making loving publicly on the streets. A marriage carries a very serious and solum swearing that both couples will be devoted and honest to each other, no matter under what circumstances, sweet or bitter. Now this woman, while his husband is absent for a certain period of time, starts a sexual relationship with her husband's good friend. Such a manner and behaviour needs morally condemned. She has simply rejected the doctrine of the moral standard set down in this strict moral society.
